FSU: Monthly Tropical Pacific Ocean Gridded Pseudo-stress Analyses

BRIEF

This file contains monthly average pseudostress values on a 2-degree, 84x30 grid, (1 grid/month) over the Tropical Pacific Ocean. These values were obtained by subjective analysis of a 2-degree by 10-degree grid, which was digitized to a 2-degree grid. The raw data for this analysis included marine surface observations obtained from the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), Asheville, North Carolina.

Starting in 1997, the analyses are the quick-look product based on reports coming in over the National Meteorological Center (NMC) Global Telecommunication System (GTS). The data are in (meters/sec)**2 with east = positive and north = positive.

The research quality data, with quicklook only for the most recent year, is available at:

ftp coaps.fsu.edu/pub/wind/pac
or
http://www.coaps.fsu.edu/WOCE/SAC/ under the Pacific Research Quality product.

The data are here. Anomalies, climatology, smoothed and detrended versions are included in addition to the original data.
FSU ANOMRaw windstress data from fsu converted to anomalies by subtraction of the climatology
FSU FULLfull wind speeds.
FSU CLIMATOLOGYclimatology used in computing anomalies
FSU 4yr ANOM The monthly anomaly relative to the four year running mean. The input data is monthly wind stress anomalies.
FSU SMOOTH4yr ANOM This file is produced by spatial smoothing and temporal smoothing of FSU monthly wind stress data. The spatial smoothing is a 1-2-1 filter run in both the X and Y directions. The temporal smoothing is a 1-2-1 average of data from two month ago, last month, and this month. The procedure is applied to the data in FSU 4yr ANOM
FSU SMOOTH4yr FULL Add anomalies (from SMOOTH4yr ANOM)and mean values to get full smoothed wind speeds
