Surface Data

All datasets include an interactive data viewer and downloadable data files.

IGOSS

The IGOSS Products Bulletin is a collection of data products designed to help monitor the world climate. These products include Sea Surface Temperature, Wind Stress, Wind Speed, and more, mostly global, and all are updated continuously.

Global

Atlas of Surface Marine Data 1994

The daSilva et al. 1994 Atlas of Surface Marine Data is a dataset containing monthly gridded global fields for over thirty variables from 1945 to the present.

Reduced Space Optimal Analysis for Historical Datasets

Reduced Space Optimal Analysis for Historical Datasets: 136 years of Global Sea Surface Temperatures are now available. This analysis uses present-day temperature patterns to enhance the meager data available in the past.

ERBE Surface Radiation Budget

This is surface radiation budget (srb) from ERBE data (Li and Leighton 1993). The dataset is here.

COADS

The Comprehensive Ocean-Atmosphere Data Set (COADS) forms the basis of most historical analyses of the marine surface. While it has its flaws, it is important to look at this original data to appreciate what the analyses are trying to overcome. Some COADS data are here.

Atlantic

CARDONE - ECMWF five day average wind stress - N/M2 x 10000. This is Cardone Level 2B data.
SERVAIN - Servain Winds and SST.
CHRIS - This is a set of wind fields calculated from a Servain wind field using EOF analysis and various wind stress formulations.

Pacific

FSU - This is the observed pseudo wind stress and anomalies, appended monthly, from Florida State University.
WEARE - This is averaged surface data by Weare et al. Marine Climate Atlas of the tropical Pacific Ocean.
